How do I format an external drive for exporting my Captures?

In order to successfully export Capture data from PX-80 to an external flash drive or SSD, your drive must be formatted using a Windows computer first.

The USB flash drives that are shipped with PX-80 bundles have been pre-formatted and should not require this step unless you have made changes to the drive.

To begin, connect your drive to your computer and open your Disk Management tool.

Here you can identify your external drive. Be careful that you select the correct disk. In this example, the flash drive to be formatted is (E:) and has already been named PX-80 USB

Right click on the drive you wish to format, again, double check you have identified the correct disk.

Select Format.

**If your drive has never been formatted you may need to follow the instructions at the bottom of this page, otherwise continue to the  Format step.

Here you will need to select the following settings:

  • File System: NTFS
  • Allocation unit size: Default
  • Un-check the box labelled "Perform a quick format"
  • You may also rename your drive if you wish.

Click OK to begin formatting.

You will be given the following warning. Click OK to continue.

You will be given a status percentage. Do not remove the drive or power off your computer until this has completed.

Once your drive has successfully been formatted with these new settings, you will need to set the drive to "quick removal"

Again, in the Disk Management tool, right click on your formatted drive and select Properties.

Select the Hardware tab and click Properties.

Select the Policies tab and confirm the Removal Policy is set to Quick Removal (default).

Click OK to save. Exit the Disk Management tool. You can now use this drive to export your Capture data from your PX-80.

** If your drive has never been formatted and you are unable to select Format, you may need to follow an additional Wizard:

Be sure to select the correct partition, otherwise you risk deleting your computer's drive data!

Select the correct disk partition and delete volume.

After you have deleted the volume, it should show up as unallocated.

Then, right click and select New Simple Volume

This will open a New Simple Volume Wizard. Specify the volume size to include the full disk space.

Next, assign a drive letter.

Now you can select your format settings. Use the following:

  • File System: NTFS
  • Allocation unit size: Default
  • Un-check the box labelled "Perform a quick format"
  • You may also rename your drive if you wish.

Click Finish to complete the Wizard and begin formatting.

You will be given a status percentage. Do not remove the drive or power off your computer until this has completed.

Once your drive has successfully been formatted with these new settings, you will need to set the drive to quick removal. Click here to jump back to the quick removal instructions.
